I’m not particularly keen on eating dishes with sauces around the timing of my training because it doesn’t sit well in my stomach. I found that out when I had a very yummy saucy lobster and prawn dish on a Friday night, but then trying to do burpees the next morning was not my favourite thing to do at that moment in time. It was a long, long WOD with a lot of breather breaks. I really enjoy this dish because there is enough sauce to give the beef some flavour but not too much that I have another sickly burpee incident!
Sesame seeds are a great addition to this recipe because they have a long list of health benefits, including but definitely not limited to, being a good source of protein, helping with digestion and repairing muscles. Perfect post-WOD really!
Teriyaki is a traditional Japanese dish therefore when looking for a carb to complement this dish, opt for white rice topped with green onions. This, as a complete meal, is one of my favourites for dinner. In addition, if I’m not training the next morning, I’ll serve it up with the remaining sauce on the side. That way I can add as much or as little as I want to my meal.
